March 22, 2026

  • What: AustinNews.org identified the largest Small Business Administration 7(a) and 504 loans approved or originated between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2024.
  • Who: Recipients are businesses with primary operations in Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Burnet and Caldwell counties; data come from the Small Business Administration and local rankings compiled by the Austin Business Journal.
  • Why it matters: The list shows which local firms secured major federal-backed financing for general business use or project financing, reflecting lending trends and economic activity across the region.

AustinNews.org analyzed Small Business Administration loan records to assemble a ranking of the area’s largest SBA 7(a) and 504 loans closed or approved from October through December 2024. The list covers borrowers whose primary operations are in Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Burnet and Caldwell counties.

Loan figures reflect the total funds originated by participating lenders and the portions guaranteed by the SBA, so the numbers represent combined lender-originated amounts and federal guarantees. Loans that were marked canceled in SBA records were excluded from the ranking, while other statuses, including undisbursed loans, remain in the dataset.

The SBA 7(a) program provides a government guarantee that helps small businesses obtain financing for a wide range of ordinary business needs, including working capital and equipment purchases. The 504 program funds project-related costs through privately originated loans, featuring senior and junior liens and a required minimum equity contribution by the borrower.

Our online ranking expands on the print edition, listing 32 recipients in the digital version, while the print paper highlights the top 20 recipients for the quarter. When two companies tie on loan size, we order them alphabetically to break the tie.

The compilation follows a recent shift in research practice that prioritizes more comprehensive data and context, and better coordination across the American City Business Journals network of more than 40 sister publications. That effort uncovered thousands of additional local records and, across the ACBJ footprint, tens of thousands of businesses that were added to company databases last year.
