Austin Spurs win 121-118 over Memphis Hustle despite four key players sidelined
March 2, 2026
- What: The Austin Spurs defeated the Memphis Hustle 121-118 in their March home opener in Austin, Texas.
- Who: Austin Spurs (including rookie guard Jayden Nunn, Kyle Mangas, Tre King) and the Memphis Hustle; Spurs head coach Jacob Chance.
- Why it matters: Austin secured the victory with an eight-player rotation while coping with multiple absences, moving the team to 16-9 and revealing depth on the roster.
The Austin Spurs entered their March home opener shorthanded, missing guards David Jones Garcia and Isaiah Miller, who have been sidelined for much of February, plus guard Donovan Williams and forward Harrison Ingram for the game. That left the Spurs with just eight players available, forcing role changes and extra minutes for several reserves.
Coach Jacob Chance praised the way the team adjusted, saying the players stepped up and showed the roster's depth and resilience. New opportunities emerged for younger players, and the coaching staff leaned on that smaller group to maintain intensity for 48 minutes.
Rookie guard Jayden Nunn took full advantage of increased playing time, recording a first career double-double with a career-best 13 rebounds and seven assists. Nunn sparked the offense after halftime, leading a 33-12 run to open the second half that produced Austin's first lead, 72-71, and shifted momentum in the Spurs' favor.
Nunn also shot 4-of-5 from three in the second half and finished with a 7-to-3 assist-to-turnover ratio, contributing both as a scorer and a facilitator. He sealed the victory late with a key free throw and an important rebound that helped secure possession in the final seconds.
Austin trailed by as many as 16 points in the second quarter but rallied behind Nunn and guard Kyle Mangas, building as much as a 17-point advantage with 2:49 remaining in the third quarter. Memphis continued to fight in the fourth, cutting the margin to two in the closing moments and forcing the Spurs to close out the game under pressure.
Forward Tre King delivered crucial late scoring, finishing with a career-high 26 points and hitting timely baskets and trips to the free-throw line. Mangas provided additional offense and composure down the stretch, and the combined late efforts held off the Hustle and moved Austin to 16-9 on the season.
The Spurs head to Sioux Falls next, facing the Skyforce on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The team will look to maintain momentum while managing its injury list and minutes across the roster.
