Mau P indoor SXSW set moves to Concourse Project after severe weather forces outdoor cancellation
March 21, 2026
- What: An outdoor Mau P performance at Moody Amphitheatre was canceled because of severe weather and moved indoors as a free public show.
- Who: Amsterdam-born DJ Mau P (Maurits Jan Westveen), SXSW organizers, Concourse Project and event sponsor Carnival Cruise.
- Where: Concourse Project nightclub near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, roughly a 20-minute drive from downtown Austin.
- Why it matters: Fans adjusted plans and endured long lines and security delays to see a late-night set that highlighted venue safety responses and drew a large, eager crowd.
SXSW canceled the scheduled Billboard THE STAGE performance by Mau P at Moody Amphitheatre at Waterloo Park two hours before showtime due to severe weather, and redirected ticket holders to an indoor event at Concourse Project. Organizers announced the change and opened the Concourse show to the public at no charge, with Carnival Cruise listed as a sponsor of the rescheduled event.
Concourse Project sits near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and can hold more than 2,000 people, making the venue a sizable alternative to the outdoor amphitheater. The location sits roughly a 20-minute drive from central Austin, but fans made the trip despite the inconvenience and a sudden cold front that brought strong winds.
Doors at Concourse Project were scheduled to open at 9 p.m.; however, a large crowd and heightened security screening created long lines, and many attendees waited well beyond the posted entry time. Staff eventually let guests inside, and Mau P began his set at 12:03 a.m., delivering a nearly three-hour delay from the original timetable.
On stage, Mau P blended hard techno and afro-house influences with his own tracks, including "Like I Like It" and "BEATS FOR THE UNDERGROUND," and spun remixed cuts of songs such as "Hot in Herre" and "Mercy," the latter featuring verses by Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz in its original form. He also played tracks listed as "neck" and "MERTHER" in his set, pairing intense low-end beats with extended, fast-paced arrangements.
Concourse Project, ranked No. 27 on DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs list in 2025, filled with heavy bass and vivid lighting, lasers and strobes that kept the room visually charged. Attendees described the air as scented by blue-raspberry and Miami mint vapes and by synthetic poppers, while bodies moved close together under flashing lights as the sound system pushed deep bass through the crowd.
The event included on-site promotions, with free ice cream and temporary tattoos available to guests seeking shelter from the night air. Mau P performed wearing dark, Matrix-style sunglasses and silver hoop earrings, while many in the audience danced beneath swirling red lights, some in sunglasses and pashminas and others waving oversized fans to the beat.
Despite the late start and venue change, the crowd responded enthusiastically to the DJ's set, which combined aggressive basslines and rapid percussion with periods of melodic layering. The rescheduled show underlined how SXSW and local venues adapt quickly when weather disrupts outdoor programming, while fans demonstrated a willingness to follow artists to alternative locations.
