SXSW 2026: 20 Free Events and Day Parties Across Austin

SXSW week brings a wide array of free programming across Austin, and local venues plus national brands are lining up day parties, showcases, and activations. These events run across March 12 through March 18, with many opening on March 12 and others scattered throughout the festival week.

On March 12, Hotel Vegas teams with Volstead to mark their 15th anniversary with a free celebration, and Visit Phoenix will host an Arizona-themed activation that same day. Waterloo Records will stage daily day parties from March 12 through March 18 that focus on Texas and local artists, giving listeners a low-cost way to sample emerging acts.

Music showcases and branded activations fill the first weekend. South by San Jose runs March 12 through March 14, offering performances across its showcase schedule. Paramount Plus brings an immersive fan experience at The Lodge from March 12 through March 15, while YETI presents a music showcase on March 12 and March 13.

Congress Avenue hosts a block party from March 12 through March 18 that highlights South Austin neighborhoods and local vendors. On March 13, Austin Chronicle’s Hair of the Three Legged Dog day party will hand out free tacos to attendees, creating a casual daytime draw for festival-goers.

Billboard House features artists like Loud Luxury from March 13 through March 15, and poster collectors can visit Flatstock on the same dates to browse music art and prints. Lone Star Roadhouse schedules sets from acts including Rattlesnake Milk and Emily Nenni between March 13 and March 15.

Family-friendly and offbeat activities appear throughout the schedule. Austin Sports Fest includes a mechanical bull ride on March 13, while Space House offers a space-themed experience on March 14 and 15. Yahoo Scout Inn presents a performance by Jessie Murph on March 14 and March 15.

Creative and community-focused programs run midweek. DAWA’s Vision:8291 spotlights BIPOC innovators and creatives from March 14 through March 17, and Design House brings creatives together for networking and showcases on March 15. Marshall Day Party hosts live performances on March 16.

Quirky attractions round out the list: St. Pickles will give away complimentary pickles on March 16, Pudgy Rodeo invites attendees to meet popular internet penguin mascots that day, and Casamigos House of Friends serves ranch waters and hot dogs on March 16 and March 17. Together, these free events provide multiple options for those attending or exploring SXSW without paid credentials.
